It's a hand up, not a handout.

Shandreka is a young single mom who came to Irving Cares when she needed food for herself and her 8 month old baby. Recently she was involved in domestic violence situation, and her abuser was arrested.  After that, he moved out of the home.  Shandreka is getting counseling and case management at the Irving Family Advocacy Center which offers free services to victims of crime and abuse.  Without her abuser’s income, she didn’t have enough money to pay rent, so her case manager referred her to Irving Cares for help.  We’re happy to help Shandreka pay her rent this month, and work in partnership with the Family Advocacy Center.
